Change icon background with CSS style?

Hello,

Can anybody please advise if it is possible to control the background of icons with CSS? I have tried creating a new class with "background-color" property but it does not have any affect on my icon. It seems that whatever background is specified in the icon properties in the front screen is the one that the dashboard uses and it cannot be changed by a CSS class.

As an example, my icon has been defined with background color #AA005F.

I created a CSS class .myIcon:

.myIcon {background-color: #FFFFFF;}

but when I apply myIcon class to my icon nothing happens. Obviously, too easy to be true...

I have tried several other things, by looking at the html code and trying to tap into my icon's id, but that didn't work either. Note, that I am able to change the color by playing with the background-color property in the developers tools. How do I tap into this property using CSS? Here's the snippet of the html for my icon.

Can anyone help, please?

Many thanks,

Agata
